Long-Distance USB-C Video, Data and Charging is now a reality thanks to hybrid firbre!
The Avencore Carbon Series Active Optical USB-C Cables provide up to 40Gbps bandwidth over optical fibres and up to 60W charging managed via 24AWG copper cores, offering the best of both worlds for long-distance USB-C interconnects. Dual Specification 4-Lane DisplayPort 2.1 + USB 2.0 and 2-Lane DisplayPort 1.4 + USB 3.2 in the same cable automatically balances your connection to accommodate a variety of use-cases.
Full 4-Lane DisplayPort 2.1 with USB 2.0 + 60W PD
40Gbps video bandwidth with USB 2.0 (480Mbps) data allows for maximum video resolutions, including 12-bit 8K HDR @ 60Hz via DSC, with a small amount of USB data for peripherals like keyboard and mouse. 60 Watt charging is supplied to keep compatible smartphones and laptops running long-term.
Balanced 2-Lane DisplayPort 1.4 with USB 3.2 + 60W PD
16.2Gbps video bandwidth with USB 3.2 (20Gbps) data allows for resolutions like 4K @ 60Hz (or higher with DSC), plus a full 10Gbps read and 10Gbps write for USB peripherals including high speed memory cards and hard drives. 60W charging is also provided via USB Power Delivery.
This plug-and-play solution uses your preferred video mode to select which specification is best for your needs, so users looking to leverage Mode 2 for 20Gbps USB data transfer speeds should select a video resolution under 16.2Gbps (5K30, 4K60, WQHD120, etc) as DSC may not activate in Mode 2. You can also run this cable without a video link, for USB data only, but your maximum bandwidth is still 20Gbps total (10Gbps read / 10Gbps write)
USB-C Video Support
Many USB Type-C sources offer video and audio support when connecting to USB-C displays and hubs. DisplayPort Alt-Mode and Thunderbolt sources are compatible for video links, but extended Thunderbolt PCIe functions such as daisy-chaining are not supported.
Display Stream Compression (DSC) is supported, allowing for much higher video resolutions to be obtained. However, DSC is generally not user-configurable and relies on your source and display hardware to activate. For example, 4K HDR @ 240Hz is within scope when using DSC under Mode 1 (4-Lane DP 2.1). Other display configurations including 5K, UltraWide, WQHD, etc are also possible based on available bandwidth and connected hardware.
Video functions are directional. Ensure you connect the plugs marked source/display accordingly. USB data is bi-directional.
