Analog video switcher and digital converter in one!

Converts FROM Composite Video (CVBS + Stereo) OR S-Video + Stereo source(s) TO a HDMI display.  Features selectable 720p / 1080p upscaled HDMI output, selectable video input and optional analog stereo pass-through. An easy solution for retro gaming consoles, VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc players and any other old AV gear that needs connecting to HDMI.

We're going back to the future!

Don't take an axe to your stubborn old VCR or camcorder just because it doesn't support HDMI!  With a simple converter box like the Avencore Composite AV + S-Video to HDMI Video Converter, you can get your old tech connected to your new TV in no time. It takes video input from Composite RCA or S-Video, combines it with left and right RCA stereo audio and outputs your choice of 720p or 1080p over HDMI - that's right; it combines the video and audio for you, with automatic synchronisation for true plug-and-play functionality.

It's a compact and reliable solution for any last-generation technology using composite video and audio or S-Video connections, whether you're saving old home movies onto your PVR or you want to let your kids play with your recently retired camcorder. It's also a powered unit, so it can handle cables up to 10 metres on both the inputs and outputs, and features its own 3.5mm audio pass-through for use with headphones or an audio receiver if your display has no speakers.

Image quality results are limited by the fidelity of your source material and the lowly capabilities of composite and S-Video signals, but the high-quality upscaled 1080p output works to get the best clarity from your source device without spending big money on broadcast quality gear. It'll quickly breathe new life into your favourite old bits of electronic equipment.

Not only is it a signal converter, but an input selector switch as well. You can leave both video input types connected at the same time and swap between them at the push of a button.

Question: Hi, would this device enable a more smoother picture from older consoles that used composite cable? Like N64 or PS2? Like when using an emulator on a PC?
Answer: "Unfortunately due to the nature of analogue video signals (especially standard-definition ones like Composite AV and S-Video) this converter can only give you so much visual improvement. Even with upscaling processes, precise pixel data is not available, so output from an old console will never look as good as its emulated counterpart on a PC. We have a blog explaining upscaling if you're interested in further reading: http://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/supersize-me-a-guide-to-video-upscaling/"

Question: DOES THIS PRODUCT WORK IN CONVERTING THE OLD ANALOGUE SIGNALS OF THE HI-8 AND VIDEO 8 HANDY CAMS TO A DIGITAL SIGNAL IN A PC?
Answer: "This converter would make it possible to show that content on a TV using HDMI, but would not make it possible for a regular PC to record the footage. You could combine a converter like this with a HDMI recorder (product code MP2280) or alternatively use a Composite to USB capture stick (product code USB8904) on its own."

Question: Can I use this to use my Wii through HDMI on new TV?
Answer: "You can, but we have a better solution - our Wii to HDMI Converter will work for you.

Question: Hi cablechick can I use the converter to connect only the video(yellow rca) from my old vcrto my new tv via hdmi. I want to connect the audio on the vcr(red and white)to a separate sound system which has rca audio inputs. So I'm asking if the converter will still work if I only want it to convert the video signal to digital and not the audio. Thanks for your help?
Answer: "Not having audio shouldn't be a problem, just connect yellow video."

Question: Will this accept 240p input from an old console?
Answer: "Yes - both Composite and S-Video cables can carry 240p signals.

We've found a good (unaffiliated) site that covers the "videosyncracies" of retro gaming here - http://retrorgb.com/240p.html"

Question: What method does the upscaler in this device use?
Answer: "This basic converter has only simple bilinear interpolation, without any post-processing to help sharpen the image. It relies heavily on the quality of the incoming signal."
