So what exactly is a 'Fingerprint Padlock' anyway?

Let's start at the begining for those new to this style of smart fingerprint operated padlocks. So we all know the conventional key-operated padlocks. They're a staple of securing items, gates, lockers, display cabinets and all manner of things, but they do require you to always have the right key on hand to unlock them. Furthermore, if you are deploying multiple locks, it's often hard to make sure they are identically keyed (meaning even more keys! Argh!).

Now in the age where we can shrink down tech to suit any application, along come Smart Padlocks - although not all of them are as smart as you'd hope. Whereas many 'Smart Lock' designs involve Bluetooth or WiFi conectivity and an App to control them, I personally am not a fan of this approach. First of all, if the App is not supported, my locks may become inoperable! Secondly, I can't think of many situations where I would need to unlock a padlock that I'm not standing next to, and when I am ready to unlock it, I don't want to pull out my phone, then find and load an App, finally navigating it's interface just to operate the lock!! It's crazy when you think about it!

That's where the design of a Fingerprint operated padlock really shines. You simply scan in your fingerprints, and the prints of anyone else you'd like to operate the lock (that could be work staff, family members, or any other authorised operators you'd like). From there there's no yers, no apps, and as long as you still have your fingers or thumbs, you can operate the lock. It's just straight-forward, sensible and all toegether brilliant! :-)

Set Up and Programming Your Fingerprints

In it's factory default setting, any finger scanned will unlock the padlock. To start adding fingerprints, simply follow the below steps:

1. Hold your finger on the reader for 5 seconds until the LED indicator changes (the first fingerprint will be the Admin User for operating the device).
2. Now press and release the a finger multiple times (5-10) to program a new print. The LED indicator will signal once the reading of the print is complete.

Adding more fingerprints:

1. With the Admin fingerprint, press on the reader for 5 seconds.
2. Once the LED Indicator starts flashing BLUE, press and release the new fingerprint to be read 5-10 times until programming is completed (the LED will flash GREEN).

Performing a Factory Reset

1. To factory reset the padlock, and remove all stored fingerprints, press and hold the Admin User's fingerprint for 20 seconds until the RED indicator lights stays on.
2. Then release and read the Admin User's print one more time to reset.
