Well, we're not going to start now, thanks to this great little 3.5mm Jack to 6.5mm Socket Adapter. It doesn't matter if you're using it to plug directly into your sound equipment or to extend your cable runs; it'll work flawlessly in both directions - downsizing or upsizing your TRS connectors (that's the audio jack standard, of course) for total flexibility.
